Curriculum
This term our topic, 'Home Sweet Home' will be history and science-based. We will be travelling back in time to look at how British people lived during the Iron Age, Roman, Anglo-Saxon and Tudor times. In science, we will begin by classifying objects into solids, liquids and gases before shifting our focus to electricity. Children will get an understanding that many appliances need electricity to function before constructing their own simple electrical circuits. A look at how electricity is generated in the UK will lead to some research into renewable sources of energy. In RE, children will study the Christmas story in the Christian faith, Hanukkah in the Jewish faith and Eid in the Muslim faith.
English
In English, we will be writing setting descriptions based around our topic of homes.
Maths
We will be using the column method of subtraction before moving on to multiplication and division.
Reading: Please can you listen to your child read daily for 10 minutes, and complete the reading task in the reading journal. Books should be changed regularly. Reading is the foundation for all learning, so your support with this will provide your child with the very best start to their education.
Maths Passport: Regular practise of Maths Passport targets helps pupils to retain knowledge and opens the door to all mathematical learning.
Times Tables: It is important all pupils learn their times tables up to the 12 x and know these by the end of year 4 this will prepare them for the statutory times table test.
Useful websites for times table practise:
Homework Grid: A copy of the new homework grid can be found below. We would love your child to pick their favourite activities to complete and are looking forward to sharing them in class. Please submit all homework on Friday 15th December.
Thank you for your continued support it makes such a huge difference to your child's learning. Please don't hesitate to us if you have any queries.
Warm regards
