Here you will find our newsletters, photos and any important information about our class. Please pop back here to see what we have been doing during the term and to find out what is coming up.

Important Class Information

PE Days: Wednesday and Thursday (starting from the week commencing 8th September) Children need to come to school wearing their PE kit.

Reading Books: reading books will be changed Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please continue to listen to your child read daily, even for 10 minutes, and get your child to complete the reading task in the reading journal.

Break time snack: If you wish for your child to have a snack at break time, please provide a healthy choice of fruit or vegetables.

Lunchtimes: Children will be eating lunch in their houses (Apollo, Endeavour, Galileo and Phoenix), and houses will be rotated regularly. This provides children with the opportunity to mix with other year groups and to make new friends.

Homework: A homework grid will be added to the website and will be due in on Monday 3rd November

Additional information:

Please ensure that all school uniform is clearly labelled so that we can easily return misplaced items to their owner.

Children are able to access and drink water throughout the day; it is important that children bring in a refillable water bottle daily. On sunny days, a named sun-hat is important for when playing outside and participating in sports activities.  Sun cream should be applied before the start of the school day. If you would like your child to re-apply, they should do so themselves during their lunch-break. It is important that they don't share with friends to avoid allergies.

If your child has any medical conditions, please can you ensure that a medical form has been filled out in the office and we are informed of how frequently medication/treatment is needed.  All medication should be clearly named and in date. Inhalers need to be in school so that they can be accessed at all times.

Curriculum

This Term’s Topic: Bountiful Biomes

This term, our learning will be centred around Bountiful Biomes, building on our previous geography unit.

In Literacy, the children will be writing a non-chronological report about a biome of their choice. In SPAG sessions, they will be focused on recapping fronted adverbials as well as compound and complex sentences.

In Geography, children will be learning to understand and compare biomes as well as knowing how pollution impacts on them.

During Science, pupils will learn how to describe parts and functions of a flowering plant as well as understanding what plants need to grow. They will be carrying out an investigation into how water is transported  in plants.

Within Computing, children will be using green screens to create a Christmas advert.

Within Religious Education, children will learn what kind of world Christians believe Jesus wanted.

In Wellbeing, pupils will be discussing different character strengths and how these might change as they get older. Children will learn more about neuroplasticity and how it helps us.

In Mathematics, the focus will be calculating; addition and subtraction.

Times Tables Rockstars: Regular practise TTRS will help pupils to retain knowledge that they can utilise facts in other mathematical learning. All pupils should have their login details and can play on phones or tablets!

Times Tables: It is important all pupils learn their timetables up to the 12 times table and know these by the end of year 4.  On Times Tables Rockstars, pupils can play 'Sound Check,' an MTC simulator that presents 25 multiplication questions (up to 12×12), with a six-second time limit for each question.
