Year 4: Beethoven

Meet the Team

Mrs Tori Gainford (Class Teacher/ Deputy Headteacher)

Mrs Emma Dulson (Class Teaching Assistant)

We have had a wonderful start to Year 4 over Autumn 1 and really enjoyed looking at our Explosive Planet. I have loved seeing your homework activities so far and I am looking forward to seeing some more after the half-term holiday. Thank you to all of you for coming to Parents Evening. It was so lovely to be able to tell you how wonderful your children are in class and how hard they have worked! As explained to you at Parents Evening, we are changing the way we do homework in Year 3 and 4 and have already sent out the homework grids, but it is attached to the bottom of this page too. We would like to receive the homework in the week before the holidays, so we can enjoy looking at it whilst we are still doing the topic. As soon as a child completes some homework, please feel free to send it in if they would like it to be displayed.

Mrs Gainford works Tuesday to Friday. Please come and find me at any point before or after school if you have any questions or concerns about your child's learning.

Beethoven

Pin by Brenda van Zyl on Truths | Beethoven quotes, Beethoven, Music quotes

We are Beethoven Class and are named after the inspirational 18th Century composer and musician. Beethoven was significant to many people for many reasons, but he is inspirational to me because he didn't allow his love of music to stop even when he could not hear it himself. He continued creating music and was resilient enough to find a way that worked for him to continue doing what he loved most.

Important Class Information

Here you will find our class updates, photos and any important information about our class. Please pop back here to see what we have been doing during the term and to find out what is coming up.

PE Days:  Monday and Tuesday Children need to come to school wearing their PE kit.

Reading Books: reading books will be changed as we receive your child's book rather than a set day. Please continue to listen to your child read daily, even for 10 minutes, and get your child to complete the reading task in their reading journal. Once completed, bring it into school and we shall try to change it that same day!

Break time snack: If you wish for your child to have a snack at break time, please provide a healthy choice of fruit or vegetables.

Lunchtimes: Children will be eating lunch in their houses (Apollo, Endeavour, Galileo and Phoenix), and houses will be rotated regularly. This provides children with the opportunity to mix with other year groups and to maintain friendships in different classes and phases.

Homework: A homework grid can be found below.

Additional information:

Please ensure that all school uniform is clearly labelled so that we can easily return misplaced items to their owner.

Children are able to access and drink water throughout the day; it is important that children bring in a refillable water bottle daily. Now we are heading into Winter, please ensure your child has a waterproof and warm coat every day. They need to wear school jumpers / cardigans over the top of their PE kit to keep them warm!

Curriculum

This Term’s Topic: Food Glorious Food

This term our topic is all about food, so it has a mainly Science and DT focus. We will be looking at digestion, nutrition and food chains in Science. In DT we will have a focus around food and seasonality where we will be doing some cooking and looking at how food and cooking methods have changed from the past. We will also be comparing two pieces of artwork; the Hay Wain and the Path through the Wheat Field. We will be having a weekly RE lesson and this term our question is; what is it like for someone to follow God?

Times Tables Rockstars: Regular practise of TTRS will help pupils to retain knowledge that they can utilise facts in other mathematical learning. All pupils should have their login details and can play on phones or tablets!

Times Tables: It is important all pupils learn their timetables up to the 12 times table and know these by the end of year 4.  On Times Tables Rockstars, pupils can play 'Sound Check,' an MTC simulator that presents 25 multiplication questions (up to 12×12), with a six-second time limit for each question. Our next practice test will be in January.

Thank you for your continued support. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries.
