Important Class Information
PE Days: Wednesday and Friday: Children need to come to school wearing their PE kit.
Reading Books: reading books will be changed Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please continue to listen to your child read daily, even for 10 minutes, and get your child to complete the reading task in the reading journal.
Break time snack: If you wish for your child to have a snack at break time, please provide a healthy choice of fruit or vegetables.
Lunchtimes: Children will be eating lunch in their houses (Apollo, Endeavour, Galileo and Phoenix), and houses will be rotated regularly. This provides children with the opportunity to mix with other year groups and to make new friends.
Homework: A homework grid will be added to the website.
Additional information:
Please ensure that all school uniform is clearly labelled so that we can easily return misplaced items to their owner.
Children are able to access and drink water throughout the day; it is important that children bring in a refillable water bottle daily. On sunny days, a named sun-hat is important for when playing outside and participating in sports activities. Sun cream should be applied before the start of the school day. If you would like your child to re-apply, they should do so themselves during their lunch-break. It is important that they don't share with friends to avoid allergies.
If your child has any medical conditions, please can you ensure that a medical form has been filled out in the office and we are informed of how frequently medication/treatment is needed. All medication should be clearly named and in date. Inhalers need to be in school so that they can be accessed at all times.
Dates
Tuesday 6th January - Children return to school
Wednesday 7th January - Children will have their first PE lesson of the term
Friday 13th February - Break up at 3.15pm
Curriculum
This Term’s Topic: Home Sweet Home
This term, our learning will be centred around the topic 'Home Sweet Home', building on our previous history learning.
In Literacy, the children will be exploring the fable of 'The Three Little Pigs' in order to retell our own version of the story to include homes from the past. Our SPAG learning will focus on features of direct speech and synonyms.
In History, children will be comparing and contrasting homes from the past. We will focus particularly on Iron Age, Roman and Tudor homes.
During Science, pupils will learn how to construct a simple circuit and carry out an investigation about which materials are good conductors and insulators of electricity.
Within Religious Education, children will learn how Hindu people describe God.
In Wellbeing, we will be exploring our next My Happy Mind module: 'Appreciate'. This module teaches the children all about gratitude.
In Mathematics, the focus will be subtraction and we will then move on to multiplication and division.
Times Tables Rockstars: Regular practise of TTRS will help pupils to retain knowledge that they can utilise facts in other mathematical learning. All pupils should have their login details and can play on phones or tablets!
Times Tables: It is important all pupils learn their timetables up to the 12 times table and know these by the end of year 4. On Times Tables Rockstars, pupils can play 'Sound Check,' an MTC simulator that presents 25 multiplication questions (up to 12×12), with a six-second time limit for each question.
Thank you for your continued support. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries.
