Important Class Information
PE Days: Wednesday and TBC (starting from the week commencing 8th September) Children need to come to school wearing their PE kit.
Reading Books: reading books will be changed Tuesdays and Fridays. Please continue to listen to your child read daily, even for 10 minutes, and get your child to complete the reading task in the reading journal.
Break time snack: If you wish for your child to have a snack at break time, please provide a healthy choice of fruit or vegetables.
Lunchtimes: Children will be eating lunch in their houses (Apollo, Endeavour, Galileo and Phoenix), and houses will be rotated regularly. This provides children with the opportunity to mix with other year groups and to make new friends.
Homework: A homework grid will be added to the website and will be due in on Monday 3rd November
Additional information:
Please ensure that all school uniform is clearly labelled so that we can easily return misplaced items to their owner.
Children are able to access and drink water throughout the day; it is important that children bring in a refillable water bottle daily. On sunny days, a named sun-hat is important for when playing outside and participating in sports activities. Sun cream should be applied before the start of the school day. If you would like your child to re-apply, they should do so themselves during their lunch-break. It is important that they don't share with friends to avoid allergies.
If your child has any medical conditions, please can you ensure that a medical form has been filled out in the office and we are informed of how frequently medication/treatment is needed. All medication should be clearly named and in date. Inhalers need to be in school so that they can be accessed at all times.

Curriculum
This Term’s Topic: Paddington
This term, our learning will be centred around the Michael Bond chapter book ‘A Bear called Paddington’.
In Literacy, the children will develop their oracy skills using drama to consider the feelings of characters from Paddington. They will write their own set of clear instructions, a setting description and explore various elements of SPAG including nouns, verbs and adjectives.
In Geography, children will be using maps and atlases to locate different countries, continents and oceans in the world. They will explore and compare the human and physical features of Europe and South America.
During Science, pupils will learn how to classify different living things and explore how environmental changes can affect living things, especially those in South America. The children will discover more about this on an exciting trip to Cotswold Wildlife Park.
In Art, we will be heading back to Paddington’s jungle routes in Peru and exploring the work of Henri Rousseau whose best-known paintings depict jungle scenes. We look forward to creating our own interpretations of his work.
Our DT this term, will see the children exploring, designing and creating cam toys.
Within Religious Education, children will learn how Christian and Jewish people believe the world was made and explore the creation story.
In Wellbeing, pupils will be discussing and developing strategies for showing kindness and respect. We will also be looking at how we can use growth mindset to help our wellbeing.
In Computing, we will be developing our PowerPoint skills with a focus on animation and transition tools
In Mathematics, the focus will be place value. We will explore numbers and incorporate lots of reasoning to ensure we have a really good understanding of their value.
Times Tables Rockstars: Regular practise TTRS will help pupils to retain knowledge that they can utilise facts in other mathematical learning. All pupils should have their login details and can play on phones or tablets!
Times Tables: It is important all pupils learn their timetables up to the 12 times table and know these by the end of year 4. On Times Tables Rockstars, pupils can play 'Sound Check,' an MTC simulator that presents 25 multiplication questions (up to 12×12), with a six-second time limit for each question.
