Important Class Information

PE Days: Wednesday and Friday: Children need to come to school wearing their PE kit.

The cricket sessions on a Tuesday have now finished.

Reading Books: reading books will be changed Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please continue to listen to your child read daily, even for 10 minutes, and get your child to complete the reading task in the reading journal.

Break time snack: If you wish for your child to have a snack at break time, please provide a healthy choice of fruit or vegetables.

Lunchtimes: Children will be eating lunch in their houses (Apollo, Endeavour, Galileo and Phoenix), and houses will be rotated regularly. This provides children with the opportunity to mix with other year groups and to make new friends.

Homework: A homework grid can be found below.

Additional information:

Please ensure that all school uniform is clearly labelled so that we can easily return misplaced items to their owner.

Children are able to access and drink water throughout the day; it is important that children bring in a refillable water bottle daily. On sunny days, a named sun-hat is important for when playing outside and participating in sports activities.  Sun cream should be applied before the start of the school day. If you would like your child to re-apply, they should do so themselves during their lunch-break. It is important that they don't share with friends to avoid allergies.

If your child has any medical conditions, please can you ensure that a medical form has been filled out in the office and we are informed of how frequently medication/treatment is needed.  All medication should be clearly named and in date. Inhalers need to be in school so that they can be accessed at all times.

Curriculum

This Term’s Topic: The Ancient Greeks

This summer, our topic has a history focus and is based on understanding the Ancient Greek civilisation. We will explore their daily lives, including the foods they ate, their homes, education, jobs and Greek mythology. We will also make connections and contrasts between the Olympic Games in the past and now.

In science, we are exploring the human body. We will understand different types of nutrition and investigate the function of our skeleton and muscles.

In art, we are developing our sketching skills as well as creating sculptures of a person with a sporting theme.

The key question we will be looking at in RE is: How and why do people try to make the world a better place?

In Mathematics, we will continue to focus on time.

In English, we will be creating non-chronological reports based on The Ancient Greeks and writing our own diary entries.

Times Tables Rockstars: Regular practise of TTRS will help pupils to retain knowledge that they can utilise facts in other mathematical learning. All pupils should have their login details and can play on phones or tablets!

Times Tables: It is important all pupils learn their timetables up to the 12 times table and know these by the end of year 4.  On Times Tables Rockstars, pupils can play 'Sound Check,' an MTC simulator that presents 25 multiplication questions (up to 12×12), with a six-second time limit for each question.

Thank you for your continued support. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries.
