Play Therapy
What is play therapy?
Play therapy offers a non-directive, child-led, creative safe space, where children can express themselves and work through difficulties, using their natural form of communication, play.
What does play therapy look like?
Play therapy uses a variety of play and creative materials, such as sand, arts and crafts, puppets, games, and role play materials to help support children to express their feelings and emotions. The role of the play therapist is to listen, join in as and when invited, to be reflective and to always have an open, non-judgemental and curious approach.
How does play therapy help a child?
Play therapy aims to fully support the child in helping to alleviate psychological and emotional difficulties, which may present as behavioural problems or preventing children from reaching their true potential. Through the play therapy experience, children can express themselves in a safe and welcoming environment, to engage in a process that will help make sense of their feelings and experiences, leading to a better understanding of themselves.
