Year 6: Turing
Meet the team:
Mr N Rourke (Class Teacher)
Mrs Van Jaarsveld (Teaching Assistant)
Our Learning
Welcome to Turing class! Here you will find our newsletters, photos of our topic work and any important information about our class. Our class is taught by Mr Rourke Monday to Thursday.
It's going to be a busy term! We will be learning about Kensuke's Kingdom by Micheal Morpurgo. Within this topic we will conduct scientific investigations. We will also be exploring how Hokusai created 'the wave' and reproducing our own version using watercolour. In geography, we will be learning how to use 4 and 6-figure grid references and in DT we will learn how to preserve foods for a period of time.
Maths
In maths this term, our main focus is fractions, decimals and percentages. This term we will also begin our boosting towards the SATS tests in May, where we will cover various areas of the KS2 maths curriculum.
English
In guided reading, our learning is based around the book 'Kensuke's Kingdom'.
Our focus will also be on spelling and grammar, looking forward to the upcoming SATS tests in May.
We will be exploring different strategies to tackle comprehension questions with a particular focus on comprehension.
SATS boosting
As mentioned above, some of our lessons will have a focus on the forthcoming SATS tests. We don't want our children becoming overly anxious about this and if you do have any questions, please do not hesitate to get into contact.
Within week 3, all children in year 6 will also receive a SATS pack to support their learning and from this they will now receive weekly tasks to complete.
Important Class Information:
PE Days: Tuesdays and Fridays. Children need to come to school wearing their PE kit.
Reading Books: reading books will be changed on Tuesday.
Homework: A homework grid for this term is attached below.
Reading: Please continue to listen to your child read daily, even for 10 minutes, and encourage them to complete the reading task in the reading journal. Books should be changed regularly. Comprehension texts will continue to be set for the children to complete regularly on Rockerbox at home.
Times Tables: It is important all pupils are learning (and continue to practice) the timetables up to the 12 times table. These should be known by the end of year 4 but it is essential that the children continue to practice and recall these facts.
