Kamkwamba Class
William Kamkwamba: inventor, author and educator, is widely known from his memoir and film “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind.” It is a story of possibility, of what becomes achievable when young people are trusted with resources, dignity, and the freedom to imagine. He has inspired so many people of all ages and backgrounds to believe that dreams can be realised with hard work and desire. It is for this reason that we have chosen him as the inspirational person to name our class after.
Welcome back! We hope you have all had a great summer holiday and are looking forward to the year ahead. Here you will find our newsletters, photos of our topic work and any important information about our class.
Our class is taught by Mrs Thomas Monday to Thursday and Mrs Browning on a Friday. Please pop back here (as well as having a look at our class photos tab) to see what we have been getting up to during the year.

Our topic this term
This term's topic is Bustling Bourton, where we will be covering lots of areas of the curriculum. In history we will be comparing the settlement of Bourton now to the past, using maps and photographic sources of evidence. We will be using map work to study economic activity in Bourton, as well as field work to understand how trade and tourism impacts Bourton. Using our computing skills, we plan to record short documentaries about Bourton using greenscreens.
Maths
In maths this term, we will focus on place value of numbers up to 1 million and beyond including numbers with up to 3 decimal places and negative numbers.
English
In writing, we will be developing our writing skills through writing persuasive leaflets. Our focus will be sentence structure, types of conjunctions and persuasive and emotive language.
Important Class Information:
PE Days: Tuesdays and Thursdays. Children need to come to school wearing their PE kit.
Reading Books: reading books will be changed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Homework: A homework grid for this term is attached below.
Reading: Please continue to listen to your child read daily, even for 10 minutes, and encourage them to complete the reading task in the reading journal. Books should be changed regularly.
Times Tables: It is important all pupils are learning (and continue to practise) the timetables up to the 12 times table. These should be known by the end of year 4 but it is essential that the children continue to practice and recall these facts.
Regular practise on Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) helps pupils to retain knowledge and helps them to utilise these facts in other mathematical learning. Please encourage your child to log in regularly - even if only for a few minutes each time.
