Our topic this term:
This term, we’re going on an exciting journey to explore Bustling Bourton!
Bourton is much more than just a village — it is a place with a fascinating past, changing present, and uncertain future. Throughout the term, we’ll be putting on our historian and geographer hats to investigate how Bourton has developed, why it has changed, and what life is like here today.
From exploring old maps and photographs to getting out into the village for hands-on fieldwork, we’ll be investigating Bourton from lots of different perspectives. We’ll use primary sources — evidence created at the time we are investigating — to help us piece together what Bourton was like in the past.
During Week 2, we'll have a low-key assessment week.
Don't panic!
The purpose of these assessments isn't to catch anyone out. Instead, they'll help us work out what everyone already knows and understands.
This gives us a clear baseline so that we can see where we are starting from.
By the end of the term, we want Ali class to be able to answer one BIG question: “How and why has Bourton changed, and what might its future look like?”
Important Class Information:
PE Days: Tuesdays and Fridays. Children need to come to school wearing their PE kit.
Reading Books: reading books will be changed on Tuesdays.
Homework: A homework grid for this term is attached below (if required).
Reading: Please continue to listen to your child read daily, even for 10 minutes, and encourage them to complete the reading task in the reading journal. Books should be changed regularly.
Times Tables: It is important all pupils are learning (and continue to practice) the timetables up to the 12 times table. These should be known by the end of year 4 but it is essential that the children continue to practice and recall these facts.
Regular practise on Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) helps pupils to retain knowledge and helps them to utilise these facts in other mathematical learning. Please encourage your child to log in regularly - even if only for a few minutes each time.
