Class teaching assistant: Mrs Browning/ Mrs Van Jaarsveld

Ali class

Welcome to Ali Class!
Here you will find our newsletters, photos of our topic work and any important information about our class.

Ali Class is taught by Mr Prosser from Monday to Friday. Please pop back regularly (and don’t forget to visit our Class Photos tab) to see what we have been getting up to throughout the year.

It is going to be another busy and exciting term with test weeks, new topics and lots of learning taking place across the curriculum.

We will be launching into our new topic, Kensuke’s Kingdom. This is primarily an art and science-based topic, involving a range of scientific investigations. Alongside this, we will be exploring shades and tints and producing a copy of the famous Hokusai wave. In design technology we will also be learning about food preservation.

Maths

In maths this term, our main focus will be multiplication and division. Pupils will:

  • Solve multistep problems in a range of contexts

  • Decide which operation and method to use, and explain their reasoning

  • Use estimation to check the accuracy of their calculations

  • Practise formal methods for short and long multiplication

  • Practise formal methods for short and long division

We will also be progressing onto fractions, decimals and percentages later on during the term.

English

In guided reading, our learning will be based around the book Kensukes's kingdom.

In writing, our focus will also be on spelling and grammar, looking forward to the upcoming SATS tests in May.

We will be exploring different strategies to tackle comprehension questions with a particular focus on comprehension.

SATS boosting

Some of our lessons will have a focus on the forthcoming SATS tests. We don't want our children becoming overly anxious about this and if you do have any questions, please do not hesitate to get into contact.

Within week 3, all children in year 6 will also receive a SATS pack to support their learning and from this they will now receive weekly tasks to complete.

Important Class Information:

PE Days: Tuesdays and Fridays. Children need to come to school wearing their PE kit.

Reading Books: reading books will be changed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Homework: A homework grid for this term is attached below.

Reading: Please continue to listen to your child read daily, even for 10 minutes, and encourage them to complete the reading task in the reading journal. Books should be changed regularly. Comprehension texts will continue to be set for the children to complete regularly on Rockerbox at home.

Times Tables: It is important all pupils are learning (and continue to practice) the timetables up to the 12 times table. These should be known by the end of year 4 but it is essential that the children continue to practice and recall these facts.

Regular practise on Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) helps pupils to retain knowledge and helps them to utilise these facts in other mathematical learning. Please encourage your child to log in regularly - even if only for a few minutes each time.
