Satellite class

Welcome to Satellite class! Here you will find our newsletters, photos of our topic work and any important information about our class. Satellite class is taught by Mrs Kilbey on a Monday and Mrs Thomas on Tuesday to Friday. Please pop back here to see what we have been getting up to during the term.

This term:

During the spring term, Year 5 will be covering lots of different areas of the curriculum.  Our topic and learning will all be linked to our class text "Kensuke's Kingdom" by Micheal Morpurgo.

In art, we will study the artist 'Hokusai', using both sketching and painting techniques to re-create his famous painting "The Great Wave".

Our science focus is 'Materials and their Properties' where we will investigate solubility and the processes of dissolving and filtration.

In geography, we will be improving our map skills, learning to use symbols and 6 figure grid references to locate places.

Design and technology lessons will focus on investigating various methods of food preservation.

Maths

In maths this term we continue with multiplication and division, before moving on to Fractions, decimals and percentages. One day a week, the lesson focus will be on reasoning questions and mental arithmetic (10 in 10s).

English

In English, we will be recapping and practising previous skills, such as: ISPACE sentence starters, subordinating conjunctions and relative embedded clauses.  We will explore these skills through a range of different text types, including balanced arguments and diary entries.

Important Class Information:

Mondays and Fridays - The children have PE in the afternoons, so please send your child in school PE kit on these days.

Important Class Information:

PE Days: Mondays and Wednesdays. Children need to come to school wearing their PE kit.

Reading Books: reading books will be changed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Homework: A new homework grid for term 4 is attached at the bottom. Homework is due on Monday 8th April, after the Easter break. Comprehesion texts will continue to be set for the children to complete regularly on Rockerbox at home.

Reading: Please continue to listen to your child read daily, even for 10 minutes, and complete the reading task in the reading journal. Books should be changed regularly.

Maths Passport: Regular practise of Maths Passport targets helps pupils to retain knowledge and helps them to utilise these facts in other mathematical learning.

Times Tables: It is important all pupils are learning (and continue to practice) the timetables up to the 12 times table. These should be known by the end of year 4 but it is essential that the children continue to practice and recall these facts.
